Xbox One and PS4 games appear to be locked at $60

It looks like Microsoft and Sony will both be offering $60 games into the next generation on the Xbox One and PS4. Confirmed earlier by Microsoft, the company says that they have no plans on raising the price of first party titles. Today, Sony has also confirmed that their next-gen games will remain locked at $60.

While Microsoft confirmed the news earlier, Sony’s committment, as confirmed by Shack News, to keeping games at $60 is a good sign for gamers that we won’t be seeing a price hike on the software side of things.

Third parties still haven’t commented on what they plan on charging customers for their wares. Since none of the big players have announced what their next-gen software will cost, so we’ll need to wait a little longer before we can officially celebrate not seeing any major price increases (at launch).

Though retailers have been taking pre-orders for Xbox One and PS4 titles already, and confirmed launch titles on GameStop and Amazon are already indicating that $59.99 will be the price point for next-gen games. Of course, this doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing new and inventive ways for publishers to extract cash from our wallets. The next-generation could see the continued rise of DLC, Season Passes and micro-transactions, if the tail-end of this generation is any indication.
