Call of Duty fans are upset about the latest update for Black Ops 2

Today Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 got a big update alongside the release of new personalization packs for the shooter. The update addressed some issues in the game which Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar explained via Twitter, after being bombarded with threats and insults from angry fans over the changes made to the game, and an issue that was causing consoles to freeze.

The patch doesn’t sound like it warrants much outrage. A couple of weapons saw their damage ratings decreased, and Vonderhaar explains that these weapons had “powerbands” and had become overpowered in Call of Duty multiplayer. The affected weapons included the AN-94, DSR 50, and Ballista.

Vonderharr says that the weapons in Black Ops 2 “Have powerbands and learning curves. Over time, both change. As one goes up, so does the other,” and noted this as the reason for the changes. But Call of Duty gets updated all the time, it’s unlikely that these changes in the weapons actually made fans so outraged that they hurled threats at the Call of Duty developer.

A more likely scenario is that after downloading the update, a bunch of players ended up freezing their consoles. Which has been addressed in an update from Treyarch since the release of the patch. It’s currently available for download on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.
