Microsoft’s original DRM plans for Xbox One were rejected by everyone around the world. It appears they have come back for buyers in China though.
A Chinese forum called A9VG show many Chinese gamers discussing about the DRM hitting the Xbox One in their country. NeoGAF has managed to translate what users have been saying and it looks like the original DRM plans Microsoft had for Xbox One has hit Chinese gamers. There was evidence for this on the Chinese version of Forza Motorsport 5.
When you buy Forza Motorsport 5 in China, you get an activation mode that can only be used once. It can only be redeemed once for an official Chinese Xbox One console. Xbox One is region free in every country apart from China. The case says the code cannot be “returned/refunded, exchanged for cash or returned after use”. The big part of the packaging says that the game cannot be “resold”. This means the game can only be bought once, ruling out trading the game or selling it.
Microsoft’s original plan for Xbox One was for gamers to install and activate games on only one machine only. If they wanted to trade a game in, they would have had to only trade it in at some retailers that had a way to deactivate games. Either way, the process sounded awful and thankfully Microsoft dropped the whole thing.
Chinese gamers on the same forum sound kind of upset about the DRM on Xbox One.
