Stefanie Jootsen (Quiet) spoke more about her role in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Jootsen was recently interviewed by Dutch newspaper Het Parool where she talked more about her role as Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Metal Gear Informer translated what she had to say.

Jootsen said Quiet won’t be playable in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. However, she will still be playing the game. She also likes how the character has her own action figure so she can hold a mini version of herself.

Jootsen described the first time she had to audition for the role of Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

“There was a crate with gun replicas. ‘Take one, and pretend like you’re infiltrating an army base’, they said. Kind of awkward, because I had no idea how to hold this thing. Fortunately, I could draw inspiration from the games I play, the other girls didn’t have a clue at all.”

When Jootsen received the role as Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the process to capture her likeness began. Her facial expressions were captured by 37 cameras and all of her movements were recorded as well. She said: “Before this I received professional combat training. Quiet is a sniper, so I had to be able to handle a gun. The other participating actors were all men who used to be in the army, but for me it was completely new“.

Since Quiet never speaks in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Jootsen said she had to record “groans and hums” mostly. There was some controversy over the design of Quiet, but Jootsen said there is a narrative reason why the character has little clothing. She also admired the character because she’s tough. She did admit she doesn’t like the portrayal of female characters in games like the Dead or Alive series.
