Batman: Arkham Knight has been out for one day now and most everybody that has played it on consoles is absolutely loving it. Those who are playing the PC port are another story however, which we have now learned was done by a group of only 12 people.
Rocksteady Studios issued an apology yesterday that we told you about, where they mentioned that they were working with their “external PC development partner.”
Since then, someone on Reddit that completed the game found out exactly who that external studio was and the minimal number of staffers they had working on the PC port, which makes the launch problems not surprising at all in hindsight.
According to Batman: Arkham Knight’s credits, Iron Galaxy Studios was in charge of “Additional Engineering & PC Support” for Batman: Arkham Knight. Under this section, only 12 team members are listed, which is hard to believe for a full PC version of a game that was supposed to be alongside the console versions. With the launch troubles so far, this seems to have been almost an afterthought with the outsourcing of this version.
This is not even the first terrible PC launch for a Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment game in recent months, as Mortal Kombat X was absolutely abysmal back in April. They managed to patch the game relatively quickly, so hopefully that will be the case for Batman: Arkham Knight, but these issues really do make the console versions seem like the better option at launch.
