343 Industries has posted a new community update regarding the development of Halo 5: Guardians. One sticking point that fans have been asking about lately concerns the fact that the most expensive version of the game doesn’t come with a physical copy, substituting a digital code instead.
In the last update they explained why this was done, having to do with the packaging and production timelines. Essentially they cut the physical disc, but left the steelbook case and all other physical goodies, because they weren’t sure if they could manufacture enough discs in time to get them into the box with the other stuff.
While fans understood, they still wanted to know if there was a way to get the physical disc, instead of the digital code, considering they were spending so much on the game. 343 has now confirmed that there will be a method, saying “we’re able to confirm that for those who would like a physical disc, we’ll provide an option for fans to exchange their digital copy for a physical copy at no additional cost.”
What that method is, and how it will work is still a mystery, with 343 simply promising more details closer to launch. Most likely there will be a bit of a delay, with fans having to enter their digital code and wait for Microsoft to ship them a copy of the game, however this is just speculation, and 343 could surprise us with a much better method than we can even think of.
Halo 5: Guardians launches on October 27th exclusively for Xbox One.
