343 Industries has now given a reason why the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Collector’s Edition only offers a download code instead of a physical disc.
The Limited Collector’s Edition costs $250 which is very expensive. Many people thought for that price, a physical copy of the game would be included. Alas, you will only be getting the digital version.
343 Industries Studio Head, Josh Holmes, has now explained why this is on Twitter. He said the situation was “driven by packaging & production timelines“. Only offering the digital copy of Halo 5: Guardians to the Limited Edition ensured they would be available on time for the game’s release date.
Holmes replied that for fans that want a physical copy of the game instead, 343 Industries is working on the situation. If you buy the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition, they’re hoping to find a way so that buyers can trade the download code for a physical disc instead.
Microsoft as a whole usually prefers to give download codes to its games. Even numerous Xbox One console bundles are like this as well. They don’t like to bundle things with physical discs anymore.
However, it’s great to know that 343 Industries are thinking of a solution to this as a lot of gamers still like owning discs.
