AOTF Podcast #44 actually happened last week, but computers do what computers do and now we’re doing it all over again. Luckily this week had just a bit more news for Will and I to talk about. While last week saw the launch of PlayStation VR, this week had a number of big announcements of upcoming games, and even new hardware. To hear what we though on these topics and more, check out the podcast below.
The biggest story was of course the unveiling of the Nintendo NX, or the Nintendo Switch as it is officially titled. As a Nintendo fan I feel like I should be gleefully excited at this announcement, but instead I just have a very cautious view of the future for the Big N.
The console seems to be combining the mega-successful handheld division with the floundering home console group. The idea seems to be to lift up the Nintendo home console, but I see how it could easily drag down the handheld, creating a future that is quite grim for Nintendo. They also seem to be repeating the mistakes of Sony, offering full quality gaming on a portable device. Of course, this is what brought down the PSP and PS Vita in a lot of ways, since gamers typically prefer to play their home console style games at home. But maybe I’m just being overly cautious. I hope it does well and we get some awesome Nintendo games on the Switch.
Shortly after the Switch was announced came something that many gamers had waited years for. The announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2 was a bit underwhelming for some, but showed what many expected in its first trailer. The game looks great, and really they don’t need to give anything else away for it to sell millions of copies.
Also on the AOTF Podcast #44, Xbox One continues its sales dominance, winning September in the US. and Will gets into some internet hot water with his lukewarm Battlefield 1 review. 3.5 out of 5 is good in a lot of people’s minds, but not those who like to post comments on gaming reviews, apparently.
