Sonic Mania is set to be the first of two Sonic games that will be releasing this year that will aim to get the blue hedgehog back on the right track, though we recently learned that it will be coming to an additional platform. During Nintendo’s Switch reveal it was announced that Sonic Mania will be coming to the platform, receiving a new trailer that you can check out at the bottom of this post.

As of right now we just have the confirmation that the game will be releasing for the Switch, but they didn’t reveal whether or not the game would utilize any of the console’s unique features. However, we do know that it will be launching right alongside the other platforms this Spring.

For those who may not know about the game, Sonic Mania lets you “play as Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles as you race through all-new Zones and fully re-imagined classics, each filled with exciting surprises and powerful bosses. Harness Sonic’s new Drop Dash, Tails’ flight, and Knuckles’ climbing abilities to overcome the evil Dr. Eggman’s robots. Discover a myriad of never-before-seen hidden paths and secrets!”

The game will certainly be a treat for longtime fans of the series, as many previous levels like Green Hill Zone will be making a return in a “remixed” form. It’s also being created by Christian “Taxman” Whitehead and Simon “Stealth” Thomley, who are two hardcore Sonic fans that have been involved with Sonic fan games and even-highly regarded ports of the early games in the series.

It’s likely that this won’t be the only upcoming Sonic game that will be announced for the Nintendo Switch, as there is a 3D Sonic game slated for release later this year that will likely come to Nintendo’s new platform. That game still does not have an official title, but it seems to be taking some pointers from the well-received Sonic Generations as it features both the retro and modern versions of Sonic.
