The Nintendo Switch may have been first unveiled back in October through a short video, but the big reveal came last week during a presentation held last week by Nintendo. During this presentation, a surprisingly low number of games were announced, with only five of them being available at launch. This lineup has been strongly criticized, but Nintendo of America’s president has weighed in on the system’s launch.
March 3 is the official release date for the Nintendo Switch and only five games are confirmed to be coming on launch day. These games are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, Just Dance 2017, Skylanders: Imaginators, and Super Bomberman R. There could always be additional downloadable titles, such as on the Virtual Console, but this is all that that is stated to be arriving on the system’s launch day.
Following the presentation for the Switch, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime spoke with CNET, where he discussed a number of different details about the system, including the launch lineup.
“Launch day is not the be-all and the end-all. It really is the steady pacing of content that continually reinforces for the people who bought into the platform why they made a smart choice, as well as what compels people who might be sitting on the sidelines to jump in.”
Fils-Aime has a point about launch day not being the most important thing, especially with most console launches being pretty lackluster, but it still feels like there could be more options to choose from.
The fact that the Nintendo Switch has The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a launch title is better than anything the Wii U had by far, but the only problem is that the game is also releasing simultaneously on the Wii U. If the game was exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, this discussion would definitely be quite different.
