BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War Launches In 2018; New Heroine Revealed

You might remember back in August 2017 that Arc System Works unveiled a new title for the long-running BlazBlue series, titled BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War, for iOS and Android. Well, at long last, we’re finally getting new info about it.

Today we learn that BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War will launch in 2018 in Japan. There was no specific release date and no other regions were mentioned, but it’s worth noting that BlazBlue has yet to have a release — main entry or otherwise — that is exclusive to Japan. The longest fans had to wait before a BlazBlue was localized was when Chrono Phantasma arrived in Japan in 2012, but arrived everywhere else in 2014.

In addition to the release window, the BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War teaser website was updated to reveal a new heroine named Ciel Sulfur (voiced by Rina Honnizumi). She’s described as a mysterious girl who works for Mitsurugi Agency and fights alongside the player during the course of the game.

Though this is all we know about her for now, the reveal does have some interesting implications outside this game. Currently, Arc System Works is developing another spin-off title called BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and considering that the game features characters from a bunch of other fighting games it has developed (as well as RWBY), it’s possible that Ciel could appear as a way to further promote the mobile game; in fact, she could very well appear in later main series titles like Es did after debuting in XBlaze – Code: Embryo.

Unfortunately, this is all that Arc System Works has to share with us at this time. Details such as BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War’s premise or gameplay still remains unknown. However, considering the game’s release window, it’s safe to assume we’ll be getting this information sooner rather than later.
