Shadow of the Colossus Remake Bests Sales of the Original in UK Debut

Bluepoint’s Shadow of the Colossus remake debuts at number 1 of the United Kingdom charts with impressive sales, which improve the first week’s numbers of the original PS2 version by 73%. This is particularly remarkable considering that the charts only track physical copies sold, which means that the remake will have sold even more when accounting for digital sales. The game is the first major PS4 exclusive this year, which will be followed like others like God of War in the coming months.

The project has managed to attract a large fanbase who had already enjoyed the game in previous PlayStation consoles, but considered that the complete graphic revamp of this version justified the new purchase. We gave the game an excellent review saying “Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best games of all time and it has now received a truly worthy remake on PS4. There aren’t any major shifts in the gameplay or content additions, but the game needed neither. Instead Bluepoint has taken the original classic, upgraded the visuals, and only touched what needed to be touched.”

Last week’s chart topper Monster Hunter: World drops to number 3, while EA Sports UFC 3 stays at number 2. Call of Duty: WWII drops out of the top 5 for the first time since it was released last December. The only other new entry of the week is the new port of Dragon Quest: Builders for Nintendo Switch, which only made it to number 31.
