God of War has two different types of saves in the game. The game will autosave quite frequently so you don’t have to worry about ever losing progress, but there are couple of reasons why you might want use the game’s manual save feature as well.
If you rely only on the autosave feature, saves will be overwritten as you progress and they are not specific to a specific playthrough. For example, if you play through God of War only autosaving and finish the game and then start another game, your autosaves from the previous playthrough will be overwritten. This can be problematic if you wanted to head back in to explore end game content.
The solution is to use the manual save functionality in the game. This can be done in the game’s menu which is accessed by pressing the Options button. This will bring up a menu which holds all of Kratos’ upgrades on the main screen. At the bottom of this menu screen in the right hand corner there is a prompt to access Options by pressing the Triangle Button. Press this and you’ll be given another menu that allows you to save your game manually.
Manual saves are not overwritten so you can feel free to try out different difficulty modes or start other playthroughs of God of War without fear of losing your progress in another game.
