Earlier this year, Pokémon GO added the new Special Research mechanic, which provided players with a number of challenging tasks with the ultimate goal of being given the chance to catch the Mythical Pokémon Mew. Now the next Mythical Pokémon, Celebi, will soon be obtainable through Special Research as well.
It was recently announced that Johto’s Grass/Psychic-type Mythical Pokémon, Celebi, will become available to catch after completing a new round of Special Research starting on August 20. For those who have yet to finish the Mew Special Research missions, don’t worry; the Celebi Special Research won’t replace the Mew Special Research, but will rather run concurrently with it. Celebi Special Research will become available to players in the middle of their Mew Special Research once the third stage of their Mew Special Research is completed, and then the two groups of Special Research will be active at the same time, allowing players to work on both simultaneously. If you’re one of the trainers who already received Celebi at this year’s Pokémon GO Fest, then completing this new Celebi Special Research will give you a bunch of Celebi Candies instead of another Celebi.
In addition to Celebi becoming attainable, other Johto Pokémon will start appearing more frequently as well. Additionally, a Celebi T-shirt for in-game avatars will become available for free, and new avatar items based on Pokémon: HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions will be unlockable by achieving Johto-related medals.
