Two years ago, it was announced that publisher Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics have been working on an Avengers game, working title The Avengers Project. However, no more information about the game has been revealed since the game’s original announcement. Now, we’ll finally get to know more about it at E3.
A new Twitter account @PlayAvengers was recently set up that finally gives some more information about the upcoming game. For one thing, the account’s first Tweet revealed the official name of the game, which is Marvel’s Avengers, similar to how last year’s Spider-Man game by Insomniac Games is officially titled Marvel’s Spider-Man. This Tweet also states that the worldwide reveal of the game will be shown during Square Enix’s E3 showcase, which is set to be streamed worldwide on Monday, June 10 at 6:00pm PST/9:00pm EST.
Interestingly, the Tweet also uses the hashtag #Reassemble, a spin on the typical catchphrase of the franchise, “Avengers assemble,” which could imply that this game will take place somewhere in the middle of the superhero team’s story, possibly after some sort of fallout among the members, as opposed to being an origin story. This would also be in line with what we saw take place in Marvel’s Spider-Man, which takes place well into Peter Parker’s superhero career, forgoing a telling of his origin story. But we’ll just have to wait to see if this holds true or not when more is revealed during Square Enix’s E3 presentation.
