As video games have become more and more reliant on online multiplayer to build and sustain thriving communities of players, many have started to offer free weekends for interested gamers to try the experience out. Rocket League has done this a few times over the last few years, and they’re doing it once again starting tomorrow.
The latest Rocket League free weekend is actually a bit longer than normal though. Players on Xbox One (an active Xbox Live Gold membership is still required) and Steam will be able to download and play Psyonix’s rocket-powered car soccer title starting July 10th and will get to enjoy it for free until July 15th. That’s Wednesday to Monday for those without a calendar handy. And as a longtime player I can assure you that this is a great time to try the game out.
Rocket League is currently in its Radical Summer event which features new cosmetic items as well as a brand new game mode. Themed after the 80’s, every few weeks has seen new things thrown into the game, all of which are nostalgic and a ton of fun. As you play you earn cassettes which can be used to buy the exclusive items, but the real fun right now is in the new Spike Rush mode. I won’t even try to explain this, since you can see for yourself in just a few short hours.
