Valve’s Steam service and EA’s Origin service have had their differences in recent years.  As EA ramps up the Origin Network, it has forsaken Steam users by not offering some of their most popular titles on Valve’s digital distribution network.  Popular games like Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 have been no-shows for Steam, but that doesn’t mean Valve’s Co-Founder isn’t playing those titles.  Gabe Newell has been experimenting with EA’s Origin Network and thinks they have a long road ahead of them.

“I have used Origin…it seems.. I mean, they have a lot of work to do, to get to where they want to be and where I as a customer want them to be… I don’t think they’re doing anything super well, yet.  They have a bunch of smart people working on it, but I think they’re playing catch-up to a lot of people who have been working in the space for a while.”

Last year’s Battlefield 3 release was not an Origin exclusive, but it might as well have been.  The large PC following for the game had a large segment of Steam gamers upset with the new ultimatum by EA and DICE.  But despite of fan outcry, EA hasn’t budged from their stance on Origin, and seem to be committed to its success.
