Valve has announced today that it is expanding its offerings past games and other technologies, to software titles that will expand the Steam platform.  Valve says that these software titles that will arrive on Steam will range from creativity to productivity uses.

These software offerings will take advantage of the Steamworks features, will be easy to install on the platform, and feature automated updating and cloud storage features that are currently available on the platform.  The software will arrive on September 5th, and Valve expects there to be other available software through the Steam Greenlight platform, and encourages developers to submit their creations.

“The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games,” said a Valve representative.  “They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests.”

What these new software features that will be available on Steam were not announced in the press release.
