It hasn’t even been a full year since Resident Evil 7 biohazard came out, but if rumors are to be believed, Capcom is already working on a new RE project — which could potentially be a new title.

In an interview translated via StevivorResident Evil 7 Director Kōshi Nakanishi and Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Director Yasuhiro Anpo state they are working on a new Resident Evil project.

“This time, I focused on making a game about fear, but one must not forget about the existing characters and stories,” Nakanishi said speaking about Resident Evil 7. “By creating a pillar that says ‘Resident Evil is a scary game,’ we’ve also managed to make it easier to develop/iterate on other elements of Resident Evil as well.”

“Also, there are many creators at Capcom, including myself, who love Resident Evil, and Anpo-san has something worthy praise that’s in development as well,” Nakanishi continued.

“I can’t announce anything yet, but as of now, I’ve been developing a certain product,” Anpo added. “Please look forward to it.”

To be clear, while their wording is highly suggests a project is in development, it doesn’t outright mean the two are referring to a new RE title; for example, this could very well be more DLC for RE 7.

That said, there are two main things that do at least point toward this product being a new addition to the franchise. First off, the original interview was published on March 23, which was more than a week after Capcom’s announced Revelations would be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One. Furthermore, the only other upcoming RE content we know about are the remake of Resident Evil 2 and the “Not A Hero” DLC for RE 7. In both cases, it wouldn’t make any sense for both directors to not explicitly mention the title of a game that Capcom had already confirmed to the public.

Some healthy skepticism is advised (at least until Capcom makes an official announcement), but it should be noted that RE 7 Executive Producer Jun Takeuchi mentioned later in April that plans for Resident Evil 8 are already in motion; so it wouldn’t hurt to at least be somewhat receptive towards the matter.
