Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma is set to have its time in the limelight once again, this time thanks to it getting an animated series on Netflix.
There’s not much info on the adaptation for the time being, but it will be produced by Sublimation (009 Re:Cyborg, Tokyo ESP), and will likely follow the same storyline as the source material if the description is any indication:
Based on a world-famous action RPG set in an open world, Dragon’s Dogma from Capcom will be brought to life as a Netflix original anime series. The story follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. An action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans.
While on the subject of the source material, Dragon’s Dogma came out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in May 2012 before getting an expansion, Dark Arisen, in April 2013. Since then, it’s received a PC port, as well an HD version on the PS4 and Xbox One. Most recently, Capcom announced it’s also set to receive a Switch version that will arrive in April.
The announcement might not mean much for those not interested in anime or might not have Netflix, but this shows that Capcom still has an interest in the series to some degree, so it might not be unreasonable for fans to continue hoping for a new entry — especially since the director, Hideaki Itsuno, is no longer wrapped up with Devil May Cry 5.
