Dark Souls 3 is all about the boss battles. Sure, exploring the vast and open wasteland of a dying world is cool, and yeah the enemies you find throughout can be really interesting. But, cutting out all of the fluff and extras, and you get down to the boss battles themselves. Some of these bosses are ridiculously tough, while others can be pretty easy once you figure out their pattern. Either way, sometimes you need some help, so here’s our continuing boss guide, this time for how to defeat Vordt of the Boreal Valley.
Vordt of the Boreal Valley has two distinct stages for his boss fight. Overall he’s a pretty slow enemy, so be ready to do a lot of dodging, but also wait for the right moment to strike. While the second stage mixes things up, the battle still comes down to avoiding his hits without using a shield, since this will likely stagger you for more attacks, and swinging away when the opportunity presents itself.
The key to this battle is to get in close and deal damage, before recovering stamina. Roll into his attacks, allowing the damage to miss, but moving toward his body. Once you are under him he cannot hit you with almost any of his attacks. Just keep swinging away at him while remaining safely underneath.
In his second stage he will begin dealing frost damage to you when you are close. Just back off and hit him with some fire weapons, such as your Firebombs, and you should be able to get back in there to do some damage. Either way, just back off and drink Estus Flasks as needed as you regain stamina, and get back into the fray as soon as you can.
Repeat these steps a few times and you’ll take him out fairly easily. For more tips be sure to check out our Dark Souls 3 Beginners Guide.
