In Death Stranding their are numerous materials that you can collect to help build structures or fabricate items. One of those raw materials are crystals that you’ll find, but the game will tell you that you need a special item to collect them.  This guide will explain what you need to do to collect the crystals in Death Stranding and when you’ll be able to do so.

Chiral Crystals are an important resource

The item that you need is the Crystal Collector and you will get the item toward the end of episode 2.  Once you have the Crystal Collector item you will be able to walk up to any crystals and simply press the Square button to collect them.

Crystals can be found in the world by using the oradek to scan for them by pressing the R1 button which will send out a ping.  If you want to scan a larger area you can use a watchtower to do so by creating it with a PCC.

Crystals are then used when building different structures, items, or they can power certain vehicles.  Crystals can be found by using the method above, they can be taken from different facility terminals using the “Claim Materials” option, or you can get a lot of Chiral Crystals by defeating BTs.
