How Does Wordle Work?

Wordle is a word-guessing game similar to that of Hangman. Instead of guessing letters, you guess entire words. From each word, you are given clues based on the letters. You do have six tries per game, so be wary with each guess.

Because you only have six tries, avoid repeating letters in subsequent words unless you have gotten greens and yellows. The more letters you can eliminate, the easier it’ll be to deduce the word of the day. Since each word has 5 letters, you can theoretically eliminate more than half of the alphabet by your fourth turn.

Of course, you can start with any word you wish. For an optimal play, try exhausting all vowels by your second try. Nearly every word in the English language contains at least one of the five vowels, with the letter Y being an extremely rare exception.
