Amiibo Hunting Guide For August 8 (Retro 3-Pack Pre-Orders)

Last week brought us the release of the last of the Wave 5A amiibo with Dark Pit at Best Buy, which followed the release of Palutena from Amazon the week before. As soon as we thought we would have a little rest until September, rumors started to circulate about an upcoming amiibo pre-order event for a special 3-pack at GameStop and that has now been confirmed for tomorrow, August 8.

GameStop sent out emails yesterday to officially promote what we’ve mostly known through various GameStop sources speaking out this week. While it is not completely confirmed to be exclusive, it appears that GameStop will be the first retailer to get more than one simultaneous retailer exclusive, this time via a 3-pack.

Starting Saturday morning, all GameStop stores will be taking pre-orders for what they are calling the amiibo Retro 3-pack that is scheduled for release on September 25. This pack comes with three classic amiibo characters in Duck Hunt, Mr. Game & Watch, and ROB, and it appears this will be the only way to obtain them in the US. Just like the Splatoon 3-pack, this will have all three amiibo in one box under the plastic, with the backing made up of the three box arts combined side by side.

Unlike the Wave 4 pre-orders at GameStop, this will be done in the classic manner where each store has a set allotment that isn’t tied to the computers and you only have to put down $5. The full price will be $34.99, so you will just have to pay the difference on release day.

The big thing to know is that GameStop stores are supposed to be opening one hour early tomorrow this event, but it is definitely a good idea to check with your local store to make sure yours is participating before going. Also, quantities are not completely known, but it sounds like most every store will have a pretty solid number of pre-orders.

I would also recommend checking with your store today, though they may not give an answer. The stores are reportedly going to put out flyers by closing tonight with the exact numbers though. Most reports for the pre-orders are around 30, with the lowest reported being 24 and some being much higher.

It doesn’t appear that any other amiibo from September will be pre-orderable tomorrow since nothing has been said so far, but it’s still a possibility with some unknown SKUs showing up alongside the 3-pack. As always, good luck and let us know if you have any success locking down your Retro 3-pack.
