The next Battlefield game is rumored to arrive later this year, will be “police themed”, and development is being handled by Visceral Games. Â A report from Polygon claims that a recent bout of layoffs at Ghost Games (makers of Need For Speed Rivals), has pushed developers away from the Need For Speed series and into development for the next Battlefield game, codenamed “Havana”.
Outside of the expected downloadable content for Battlefield 4, there’s been no word of where the Battlefield franchise is heading next.
At this point, it’s expected that EA will have a big fall military shooter, we just don’t know who is developing it. Â Since 2010, we’ve been seeing a Battlefield game every other year, with Medal of Honor filling in on the off years. Â A combination of Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s disappointing 2012 release and Activision’s success in releasing Call of Duty every year, may have prompted EA to follow a similar strategy with their Battlefield franchise.
We’ll need to wait and see what 2014 holds for the Battlefield series, but historically, as we head closer to GDC in March (March 17th-21st), we should have a clearer picture of what EA’s plans are.
