Captain Phasma did not do much in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens, but the character will be returning in Star Wars: Episode 8. Will she actually be doing anything cool in the new movie?

Captain Phasma herself (Gwendoline Christie), confirmed that her character will be returning in Star Wars: Episode 8 when People Magazine caught up with her during the SAG Awards.

She confirmed: “I will be in the next Star Wars movie“. This is good news for fans that were disappointed over the character’s portrayal in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. Fans have described her as the “Boba Fett” for the new series as both characters look cool, but don’t get much screentime. This might change in the next movie.

Christie also mentioned that she had to fight for the part of Captain Phasma as J.J. Abrams helped her eventually get the role. Phasma initially was created to be for a male actor until they changed their minds. She eventually got the role in the end and she’s happy that this will open the door for more females to get parts like this in the future.

It will be a long wait for Star Wars: Episode 8 with the film now coming out in December 2017. The movie was pushed back several months in order for the script to be re-written.
