Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed the English version of the opening cinematic to the upcoming RPG Dark Souls 3. Setting the stage for the epic battles to come, the video, titled “To The Kingdom of Lothric” explains the simple backstory setup for the game, while pushing Dark Souls lore quite a bit.

“In venturing North, the Pilgrims discover the truth of the Old Words… Discover in exclusivity the opening cinematic of Dark Souls 3! Yhorm the Giant, Aldrich Saint of the Deep, Farron’s Undead Legion and more await you in Lothric. Are you ready to fight them all?”

We previously got to take a look at Dark Souls 3, and speak with a representative of Bandai Namco. We came away quite impressed, and seemingly with a lot of story info that is setup in this opening cinematic. The world of Dark Souls 3 is much more post-apocalyptic than the first two titles, with the fire of the world fading, causing the Lords of Cinder to awaken and terrorize the land.

The Dark Souls series is well known for its deep and rich story line and lore, but it has always been rather subtle in its storytelling. Dark Souls 3 seems to build upon what has come before, and expand the universe quite a bit, though we’ll see if the plot becomes a more important element to the game.

Dark Souls 3 will be released on April 12th, 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
