Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will now feature the option for two-on-two tag battles in online multiplayer mode, according to a recent announcement from Team Ninja.  The developer also promises that the multiplayer mode as a whole will be smoother and have shortened wait times when finding matches.

The Ultimate version of Dead or Alive 5 will also feature an online ranking system for two-on-two tag battles with Grade Points scored in those battles that are used afterwards to unlock new costumes for characters. Tecmo Koei also confirmed a huge set of 231 costumes for the game.

These Grade Points can also be earned through a new Prize Fighter ranking mode, which rewards players for winning back-to-back online ranked battles. Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate also introduces to us the Character Points system, which are like XP points for each character in the game and increases its skill level. The game includes Leon and Ein from previous Dead or Alive games, Rachel and Momiji from Ninja Gaiden and Jacky Bryant from Virtua Fighter.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate comes to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on Sept. 3.
