Destiny may have just released less than two months ago, with the first expansion still over a month away. However, it has now been revealed that the follow-up to the game is already in the works from Bungie.
During yesterday’s post-earnings financial call, the CEO of Activision Publishing Eric Hirshberg talked about the future of the series by saying that development had already begun on the next entry in the series, according to GameSpot. Specifically, he said:
“Work has also begun on future expansion packs, as well as on our next full game release.”
While they are still working on expansions for the first Destiny, there is no real surprise that Bungie has already started work on the sequel. With all the talk that Bungie and Activision had a 10 year plan for the series, including a ton of money being invested in the future, this is pretty much as expected.
The question now is whether Activision may plan to eventually make Destiny an annual series in the vein as their golden goose Call of Duty. We are unlikely to see one in 2015, as Bungie is the only one working on the series right now, but we’ll have to wait and see just when that sequel may come later.
