With the PlayStation 4 comes the new DualShock 4 controller, and aside from Sony redesigning the controller to be better used with shooters, there’s also the touchpad functionality that developers need to take into consideration.
While Battlefield 4 players on the PS4 will likely take advantage of these design choices to have a better experience on the platform, DICE is still hammering out ways for them to implement the touchpad on the DualShock 4. Speaking in a recent interview with OPM, DICE’s Aleksander Grondal explains that the developers are still working on ways to use the touchpad, but one of them has included using it as a grenade lobbing tool.
When asked what their intentions were for the DualShock 4’s touchpad, Grondal explained: “We’ve experimented, but haven’t exactly nailed how we want it to behave just yet. Obviously flicking to throw a grenade is an option. There’s a bunch of things we’re testing out – we just haven’t settled on anything.”
With only a few weeks to release, it’ll be interesting to see what DICE settles with on the PS4, if anything. Flicking the touchpad to throw a grenade in Battlefield 4 might be cool, but what do you think DICE should do with the touchpad? Let us know in the comments section, below.
