DOOM 4 (or simply DOOM) was revealed at QuakeCon and some of the first details for the game were finally revealed.

First of all, DOOM 4 will be released only for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. id Software want to make sure the game is 1080p and 60fps on all platforms. This confirmation also rules out the game will ever be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. They want to take full advantage of the power hidden underneath the new consoles.

There will be a host of old-school weapons you can use in DOOM 4. This includes a double-barrell shotgun and even a chainsaw for you to use. They also promised the game will be fast paced and full of enemies running towards you like the old games.

The most interesting tidbit announced for DOOM 4 is the return of old school gaming mechanics. It promises not be to like recent FPS games where you can only hold two weapons and your health regenerates. In DOOM 4, you can hold as many weapons as you want. There will also be health and ammo pick ups like the old games. Most of all, your health does not regenerate so you have to be careful not to run-and-gun like usual.

There’s no release date set for DOOM 4, but many people are eager to see gameplay footage for themselves. Hopefully id Software will show off a trailer very soon.
