Nintendo has announced that it will publish Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Builders in North America and Europe on February 9, weeks earlier than its Japanese release on March 1. This spin-off from the classic RPG series lets players gather resources in true Minecraft fashion to reconstruct the towns of the world of Alefgard, from the original Dragon Quest game, which has been desolated by Dragonlord.
While comparisons with Mojang’s huge hit are inevitable, Builders manages to create it’s own identity by putting more focus on the story and the most iconic Dragon Quest elements in terms of designs, sounds, or humor. This Nintendo Switch port will be compatible with the console’s variety of controllers, and it will offer players acces to the Great Sabrecub mount, allowing them to travel faster and earn extra items after battles.
The game was originally released on PS4 and PSVita back in 2016, and we gave it an excellent review. This is what we said: “While created for fans first and foremost, Dragon Quest Builders serves as not only a love letter to the long running series, but also as an excellent introduction for newcomers to this wonderful franchise that is definitely worth checking out.”
Square Enix will also release in 2018 the sequel, Dragon Quest Builders 2, for PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
