Genshin Impact’s upcoming 2.8 update is full of surprises, and it turns out that players will get to obtain a free Electro character during the main event of the update. Version 2.8 is still far from coming to players, but there are already a couple of leaks hinting at its release date, content, and much more.
Genshin Impact fans are still waiting for update 2.7; said update is coming on May 31 after some delays and continued hype from the fan base that is still enjoying this multiplatform title. Even though update 2.7 has not been released yet, fans of the game are already looking for leaks and any kind of information regarding update 2.8. This shows the level of commitment and hype around the game, and it puts a lot of pressure on the developers. Luckily for players, some Twitter leakers have been looking for information regarding the new update, and they finally struck gold.
Last week, a Genshin leaker GenshinIntel made a tweet regarding some new information about an event that will be featured in update 2.8 called “A Summer Sea Sojourn” and the rewards that will be redeemable during the event. Among the rewards that players can get in the event, players will be able to redeem a free Fischl for 2000 event currency.
The main event of 2.8, "A Summer Sea Sojourn" (summer islands v2), rewards an event currency (something similar to the Shiny Flotsam in 1.6).

According to the same tweet, the “A Summer Sea Sojourn” event will be similar to the event called “Shiny Flotsam” from version 1.6, so players who participated in that event will be somewhat comfortable once update 2.8 goes live. This event will allow players who do not have the character to get her free of charge.
Update 2.8 is coming later this year (and could introduce a new Anemo character named Heizou) , although it is not set in stone given the fact that update 2.7 has not been released yet and suffered a delay. Besides the new event, update 2.8 will add a new hangout event and story quest based on two Anemo characters:
- Shikanoin Heizou Hang Out event.
- Kazuha Story Quest:Â Acer Palmatum Chapter: Act I.
All in all, we are still far away from getting update 2.8, so if you are still looking for some Genshin Impact content, make sure you keep an eye out for version 2.7. It will launch on May 31, so we are less than a week away from getting some new content like the highly-anticipated Hydro character Yelan.
