Over the weekend, a strange peice of artwork surfaced that featured the rap artist known as The Game, in what appeared to be GTA V stylized art. As expected, this news spread through the GTA V community like wildfire, leading many to assume that it was genuine. After all, the photo was accompanied by no details, just the rapper and Rockstar’s famous logo.

Rumors of a deeper character for the rapper became pretty believable considering his involvement in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. He did play Mark ‘B-Dup’ Wayne, and did confirm in a 2012 interview that he had done a little work with Rockstar on GTA V.

Well it’s been a few days since the art was released, and its come to light that it was not genuine from Rockstar afterall, it was a fan-made piece. While this might come as a disappointment to some fans looking for The Game to play a bigger role in the upcoming open-world title, it’s very likely that he’ll be in the game in some capacity. That is if Rockstar didn’t leave his parts on the cutting room floor.

We likely won’t hear much more about The Game’s involvement level in GTA 5 until Rockstar begins to clear the air about their next game. Details are still slim on Grand Theft Auto 5, and the Rockstar has yet to even slap a concrete release date on the game. They are expected to release official box art for GTA V and issue a firm release date within the month of January.
