Sony might be looking to employ the very people that have hacked the PlayStation 3. A reader over on Reddit claims that Sony contacted him about a job as a Software Engineer with the company. The recruiter from SCEA allegedly claimed to be opening a new position within the company’s R&D department and thought the hacker would be a good fit. Maybe now we know what Sony was planning on doing with those email addresses from GeoHot’s website….hiring, obviously.
The hacker named Koushik Dutta was tracked down through his blog actually, and posted the entirety of his email.
I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Sarah McRae and I work onsite for Sony PlayStation in the Talent Aquisition department. We came across your blog and thought we’d reach out to you to see if you’d ever be interested in exploring opportunities with us here at SCEA. I am in the process of opening a Software Engineer role within our R&D team and you may be a good fit. Please let me know if you’d be interested in talking on the phone to further discuss…
Happy Friday and I hope to hear from you soon.
and the reply:
Hi Sarah, I appreciate that you reached out to me. The opportunity does sound very interesting! However, due Sony’s recent treatment of fellow hacker, George Hotz, I could not in good conscience work at Sony.
