Hotline Miami has sold pretty well for Devolver Digital, the upstart developers sold 130,000 copies of the game since its launch nearly two months ago.  However, despite the success that the game has seen, more people have probably played a torrented version than have actually paid for the game.

Project Manager for the game, Grameme Struthers recently told Eurogamer of his excitement for the team, and explains the rash of piracy.

“It has been torrented to such a staggering level,” Struthers said.  “And given the file size of it, I mean, you can’t really be surprised, right?  You could pass this thing around on the world’s smallest memory stick.  So it has been torrented to extraordinary levels.”

Will the developers do anything different when it’s time for Hotline Miami 2 to launch?  They haven’t explained how they’ll address the problem if they plan to do so at all.  The developers recently confirmed that they have plans to release Hotline Miami 2, but no timetable was given for the release.

While the game may be readily available for pirates, you can purchase a legitimate copy on Steam for $9.99.
