Mark Boal, who wrote the Academy Award winning script for “The Hurt Locker”, is now on board to write on the Uncharted movie adaptation.
This news comes from an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter. Mark Boal’s biggest achievement is of course winning the Oscar for writing on The Hurt Locker. He was nominated for the same category for Zero Dark Thirty. Both films were directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
Mark Boal is said to be a fan of the Uncharted series which is a big bonus for gamers. Most Hollywood adaptations of video games stray far away from the source material they are actually based on. Hopefully the Uncharted movie is actually based on the games.
Sony envisions the Uncharted movie to be in a similar vein to the Indiana Jones series. The fact the studio is bringing in Mark Boal proves they want the movie to be a success. If there’s one thing the video game industry needs, it’s one decent movie. Comic books are currently doing well now, so there’s no reason as to why video games cannot achieve the same kind of success.
The studio still needs to find who will play Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. At least the movie looks like it’s going ahead now as it has been in developmental hell for many years.
