It’s ‘Up To Sony’ If Tekken 7 Has PS4/Xbox One Cross-Play

It's 'Up To Sony' If Tekken 7 Has PS4/Xbox One Cross-Play News Xbox Tekken 7 Bandai Namco

Bandai Namco is unsure if Tekken 7 will have cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One gamers. The developers are leaving that decision to Sony.

A fan asked Tekken 7’s game designer, Michael Murray, on Twitter if the game will have cross-play between console players. He said: “Please ask Sony. MS already publicly said they’re interested in cross platform“.

Sony has been open to cross-play in the past, but only for PC games. Final Fantasy XIV, Street Fighter V and Rocket League come to mind. Rocket League also has cross-play between PC and Xbox One gamers too.

However, when it comes to PS4 and Xbox One games, cross-play is non-existent. Microsoft used to be hesitant towards cross-play in the past, but now they are more open to it. We’ll just have to wait and see if Sony feels the same way as well.

The benefit of cross-play is that it keeps the online population high. Some online multiplayer experiences can be annoying if you cannot find enough players to join you. This shouldn’t be too much of a problem if you can find other players on more platforms.

Tekken 7 won’t be out until 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Hopefully the game ends up having cross-play so gamers have more people to play against.

Just do it already Sony, make more games cross-platform play. It’s a benefit to your customers.

    • GrandReckoning

of course Xbox owners want to play with PS4 owners because Xbox Live is a ghost town but how is it a benefit to Sony and PlayStation gamerz? Not everyone wants to play with Xbox or likes Microsoft’s greedy business. Microsoft didn’t want cross platform play until Xbox started falling too far behind in sales. It only benefits Microsoft.

Sony already does crossplay with PC but why should Sony allow greedy Xbox?

      • harrymanback

More people to play with. What does it matter if they have a different console. It would benefit gamers like me that own all platforms, and now you won’t be forced to play with little kids and deaf people. It may help you become a better gamer too. One example. When I got black ops for my ps4 I would just kill it everytime, but not so much on xb1. They have an older demographic and better players. I ended up stepping up my game and now I’m wrecking those xb1 players, but there are some really good players on their. Bo3 is one example I have seen over and over. Most blame it on the controller.lol

        • Guest

“you won’t be forced to play with little kids and deaf people”
Really? That’s what I thought about playing with XBL.

          “They have an older demographic.”
Do you have proof of that or are you just posting fanboy bs?

      • MrSquifler

How is playing with Xbox users going to be any different that PlayStation uses? You probably wouldn’t even know.

As to how is benefits the customer. If you combine the community of a multiplayer game with the another community you get a larger community, this means multiplayer games will have more players and will have longevity.

Take Titanfall for example, it’s a really great game, but if I login to my account now I’ll find maybe 2,000 players, if PS4 and Xbox One use cross-platform play Titanfall 2 is likely to avoid this issue entirely.

      • dennis herron

Allow cross play with the option of including or excluding platforms… not that hard a concept lol

      • harrymanback

How is it a ghost town sony only has 20 million paid online users across all platforms. Xb live has just as many paid users. It’s pretty even.

      • harrymanback

Microsoft only won last gen because of America they are less than a million consoles down in america. It’s pretty close race here in the states.

        • Guest

“Microsoft only won last gen because of America”
What are you talking about? Are you lying on purpose?
The XB 360 didn’t outsell the PS3 overall despite having such an headstart.

“they are less than a million consoles down in america.”
Where you got that from? I’m getting the feeling you’re just making stuff up as you go along.

          • harrymanback

The 360 sold 50 million consoles in america alone one and Sony sold 30 million. Sony did outsell the 360 but only after the new consoles came out. Ps4 had 15 million consoles sold and xb1 has 14 million so far in the usa. That’s the numbers from last month before the s model came out.
This is all well known information. You wouldn’t know unless you follow stocks or own any. Plus there are website that take all the work out for you and post the estimates. Like vgcharts.

          • bewareofZ

VGChartz has PS4 at 15.5 million XB1 at 13.5 million in the US, which is 2 million last time I checked. The XB1 only outsold the PS4 by around 10k in June. Still a long way to go yet.

        • bewareofZ

That’s impossible. PS4 has won all but 4 or 5 NPD’s in the last 2.5 years.
          Proof?

          • harrymanback

They are only ahead because of the Asian and European sales who’s is more than double of the sales of ps4 consoles here in america.

          • bewareofZ

They are also ahead in the US.
The PS4 has won all but 4 NPD’s since launch.
Maybe you could find some links to back up your (flawed) theory.

    • freddy_uk

ps4 gamers are not that bothered . ps4 has cross play with pc already . Only xbox users that want it

      • MrSquifler

Xbox has cross-play with PC too, and everyone should want it. There is no negative to any community, it gives longevity to multiplayer games and that’s a good thing.

  • Troy Marcel

I wonder if it’s their reluctance due to PSN lacking the robustness of Xbox Live.

    • GrandReckoning

Yeah nice try. Why does Xbox Live go down more? why is it slower?

Before Microsoft backtracked and prevented cross play even with Steam I wonder if was due to Xbox Live lacking the robustness of PSN. I wonder if Microsoft backtracked on cross play only because they’re losing.

      • Troy Marcel

Yeah fail, try again. Everybody knows that PSN is not as good as Xbox live.

        • harrymanback

That is a fact. Less latency and more stable.

          • MrSquifler

Xbox Live is definitely more stable than PSN. Both are great, but PlayStation Network has more outages, has had more attacks and less reliability.

          • Guest

            Really? Can you prove it?

          • MrSquifler

Xbox Live gets more updates for one thing. Apparently PlayStations hasn’t had an update in awhile. PSN seems to have more outages and from hearing a lot of Playstation users (and owning a PS3) PSN certainly feels less stable and a little more clunky.

Can I prove it? No, it’s down to personal preference, PSN has had more hacks and outages than Xbox Live, but some prefer the service to Xbox Live.

          • Guest

“Can I prove it? No, it’s down to personal preference, PSN has had more hacks and outages than Xbox Live, but some prefer the service to Xbox Live.”
That’s the whole point. It’s all personal preference. I’m not sure PSN has had more hacks and outages than XBL. In the last 1-2 years, Ive been I’ve been counting articles about XBL/PSN problems on this site and there seem to be more articles about XBL, We’ve even had this article earlier this year:
            http://attackofthefanboy.com/news/xbox-live-has-been-down-more-times-than-psn-in-2016-so-far/

But that doesn’t mean one has more outage or problems than the other. There are so many factors that comes into play. For me, I prefer PSN and feel it is more stable and reliable, but that’s really just my opinion. Not a fact in any way.

          • harrymanback

You can’t believe these articles dude learn for yourself. These people that write these articles are trying to make ms look bad some have even confessed to being biased. These articles most of the time aren’t done jn a professional manner. Like the guy that gave uncharted a 42 out of a hundred. I actually play on both because I have to. It’s the only way to play with both my family and friends. Every single time I play Bo3 on psn I lag out at least a few times. Which is fine but it gets old. Now when I play on xb1 it’s very rare maybe once a week it happends. It’s not a fact but it is an observation.

          • Guest

I can’t believe these articles but I should believe you? Someone who clearly supports one company over the other, and looks like making a lot of stuff?

The article here usually comes with a direct link to XBL or PSN status page.

It’s ok, I’m not saying that there aren’t any problems. I believe you if you say there are problems, but BOTH have problems. There is not one better than the other because at the end of the day it comes down to individual experience. Subjective opinions doesn’t make a fact….

          • harrymanback

            No your right.

          • MrSquifler

I personally have seen more reports on various sites about PSN outages, I think the last one I was for Xbox Live was around the new year. I use Xbox Live almost daily and never experienced any issues, but that doesn’t mean anything.

I don’t know how reliable it is, but I am on both Xbox and Playstation Reddit and I see posts about PSN being slow, people getting hacked and the network being down and I haven’t seen a single one for XBL, again, I don’t know how reliable that is.

Also, that was just a tweet, he didn’t provide any information about the actual outages so who knows if he was really telling the truth.

          • bewareofZ
          • MrSquifler

That was back in February, how many times has PSN been down since then?

          • bewareofZ

            Only once, for official maintenance.

          • MrSquifler

Then why am I seeing people say PSN is down on p/PlayStation everyday? And why do I have trouble logging-in to PSN on my Vita and PS3?

          • bewareofZ
          • MrSquifler

Look at the comments on the PlayStation one. People are complaining about it being down for a week.

Like I said, I see more people complaining about PSN outages than XBL, websites only report on the large-scale outages.

          • bewareofZ

20 people out of 119 million, is not an outage.
            Same for XBL.
I’ve seen more complaining about XBL this year.

          • MrSquifler

If ti is out in an area, regardless on the amount of people it affects, it is an outage.

Where have you seen people complain about XBL? I use it almost everyday and I’ve experienced minor issues, and I rarely see anyone (other than trolls) complain about it.

I’m not trying to start an argument, I am genuinely curious.

          • bewareofZ

That’s my point, you could be reading comments from trolls complaining about the service when they don’t even use it. You’ve got no way of telling the difference.
I also have had a few minor issues on PSN but no outages and I do use it everyday.
I’ve seen a lot of people complaining on the comments section of most gaming sites

          • MrSquifler

But the complaints I see mainly see are on Reddit, where a lot of PlayStation owners visit, and most of the comments are users who are also experiencing issues. They’re not troll.s.

          • bewareofZ

When you claim one service has had more outages and hacks than the other, that isn’t personal preference, that’s a claim that has to be backed up. Otherwise it’s just fanboy BS.

          • MrSquifler

            Except I’m not a fanboy…

And I already said Reddit, and that it wasn’t a very reliable source.

          • Andrey Wong

You can use it and see it by yourself just like everybody else thats why most of the people say xb live is better because it is and 3 to 4 people saying otherwise is not gonna change that and if you want a more concrete proof how about that azure wich is the xbox live platform is the world lider on cloud services

          • Guest

LOL that’s no proof. That’s just you saying random stuff without any evidence.
            1) Can you show me where “most of the people say xb live is better”.
            2) How can an opinion become a fact? There is no such thing “as the better service”

Also I’m not sure what’s your point about the cloud. It’s been more than 3 years MS has been selling the greatness of “THE CLOUD”, so can you tell me how many games IS using the cloud and in what ways.

And either way that has nothing to do with XBL vs PSN services and how stable they are…

          • Andrey Wong

Well if by now you dont know that the most of the people and media know that xbox live is better you provably are pretty new to gaming and pretty sure you would not undrestand a lot of what im saying but thats cool if you enjoy psn and think is better good for you

          • Guest

No, I’m not new to gaming. LOL
What you don’t seem to understand is there is no such thing as “the better online service”.
You prefer Halo 5, I prefer We happy few. It doesn’t mean We happy few is better than Halo 5 or the other way round.

          • harrymanback

Well one example is when red dead became available on xb1 I used the cloud to load up my game save from like two years a go. That’s better than what psn offers.

          • Guest

You are talking about BC. If you’re talking about storing saved games on the cloud , PSN does it.

          • harrymanback

I can upload my red dead save from my ps3 and then upload it to my ps4. Sweet. I never really had the need to even on the xb1. The cloud won’t be useful until everyone gets good internet, until then it’s too advanced for the time.

          • harrymanback

Can you prove that psn is better? Well then it must not be right because you can’t prove it.

          • Guest

facts can be proven. Can you prove it?

          • harrymanback

No you’re right I cant. I haven’t really tried to find how to check my ping on my ps4. It’s not bad but some games will tell you what your ping is or the lobby ping. The multiplatform games like bo3 will say that my ping on the ps4 is 20ms slower than on my xb1. Psn is pretty good though. I’m glad they give us the option to pay now. They should have from the beginning it only makes things better.

        • Guest

lol. That just seems to be a personal opinion.

        • Mr Xrat

It hasn’t been that way for years.

          • harrymanback

Psn has never been better. Your sound like Brian when he told Dom he had him. He never had him, he never had his car. lol

    • DucksonAPlain

I think it is more to do with Sony being a Japanese Company. They don’t understand this stuff.

Also, more people own a PS4, so Sony doesn’t really need this. Having more people to play with is a huge Selling Point for Multiplat games with Multiplayer. As it stands, Sony can ensure people with both Systems get it for their console (and even get some people to buy their console, if they haven’t already).

And before you say more people have a PC in their house, lawl, fighting game on PC.

      • GrandReckoning

“more to do with sony being a Japanese company”

Why does PSN seem better than Xbox Live? Your statement also doesn’t make sense because PSN is also designed and run in America.

Sounds like you’re racist against Japanese.

  • Sexy Mcgee

I hope people aren’t buying into the PR BS of the crossplatform back and forth. Which ever party is in the lead obviously want to keep it’s platform closed as a selling point of having a bigger user base to play with. Of course the party that’s falling behind will be open to the idea of cross platform play. Last gen when Microsoft had the larger online user base Sony wanted crossplatform play and Microsoft didn’t’. Now the tables have turned and each are singing a different tune. No one is the hero here it’s just two corporations trying to make their platform look as much of a necessity as possible or defuse the other’s advantage.

    • harrymanback

The online user base between the xb1 and ps4 are the same. I think it’s just ms trying to get rid of that cocky attitude they had before. They are trying to be open to everything and make their customers happy.

      • Guest

“The online user base between the xb1 and ps4 are the same.”
Can you prove it, do you have a link?

        • dennis herron

A simple search will yield wonderful results. My 5 year old kid can prove this lol

          • MrSquifler

You should prove it! You’re the one making the claim.

          • harrymanback

An easy way to tell is to look at sales of multiplatform games that are online based. Look at the difference in total sales. Sony should have double the sales but they dont. Numbers don’t lie.

        • harrymanback

Give me an email address and I’ll forward you some emails. I’m taking a dump right now and have to wipe soon so I can’t prove it to you now. If you look for it it’s an email that Sony sent to us stock owners and it says how many paid subs they have and how it’s growing. If it was my guess I’d say they have 12 to 18 million paid subs on ps4. You have to leave some room for the older consoles and the vita.

      • Sexy Mcgee

Considering they sold about half the amount of Xbox One’s as PS4 I doubt this is true. They might have an equal amount or more of registered users due to accounts created for 360 but how many of them are actually active.

        • harrymanback

All 49 million. Are active paid users. They didn’t mention the silver subs. But if I had to guess 15 million subs on xb1 30 on xb 360 and the rest are pc accounts.

    • harrymanback

There is a reason why sony won’t release exactly how many paid users they have on each platform instead they put them all together in one to make it seem bigger. Ms does the same thing just to boast that it’s paid user base is still more than double of what sony has. I just want there to be peace. Sony can’t beat ms they have too much money they will go broke trying to do so. Ms can’t beat sony they have been around too long to go away. They need to learn to work together.

      • Guest

“Ms does the same thing just to boast that it’s paid user base is still more than double of what sony has.”
lol What are you talking about?

        • dennis herron

Apples to oranges lol. MS has a higher paid user base because they charge all Xbox generations. Sony only charges its ps4 users, not ps3 users. Technically, Sony has double the online presence MS does. I love half truths!

      • Holeybartender

Last I checked Sony had over 600 billion in capital.Don’t think they are as hurt as you think.

    • MrSquifler

Where is the proof that Sony wanted cross-platform play last-gen? I keep seeing this pop-up but no one has any evidence of it

      • ?

alot of mmo’s. I played dc universe on ps3 and it’s cross play between pc. Portal 2 as well.

They have tried it before, it can work well

        • MrSquifler

The key word is PC. He, and many others have said the Sony wanted to try cross-platform-play with Microsoft and there is no proof of this.

Xbox Live also had cross-platform with PC.

          Shadowrun
          Universe at War: Earth Assault
          Lost Planet: Colonies Edition
          BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
          Game Room

Backward compatible games are cross-platform with Xbox 360 and with Windows 10 and Xbox Live being integrated almost every Microsoft exclusive will have cross-platform with PC.

Rocket League uses it too. I believe Minecraft does as well.

Microsoft are trying to reach out to Sony and they aren’t really doing anything about it. I hope they do, it’d be a great thing to take advantage of.

          • GrandReckoning

FF14 isn’t on Xbox One because Microsoft didn’t allow cross play between Xbox Live and other networks. Sony always did.

Microsoft backtracked because people caught on to what Microsoft was doing. Microsoft couldn’t afford to try to lock everyone in Xbox Live anymore because they’re losing. They had to put aside their greed to survive. That is why Rocket League has cross platform play on Xbox. Microsoft saw how popular Rocket League was.

        Google does wonders lol

        • MrSquifler

I’m not proving his point for him, he should find the evidence to show to me.

I have never seen any proof of this from anyone who claims that Sony wanted this and tried to make it happen.

          • dennis herron

This is a comment blog, not a scientific paper. No one who comments on this blog have to provide proof to you. Your stance on proof can work both ways if you want to get technical. Why don’t you provide proof to the contrary? You are the one refuting the many people who say otherwise. The onus is actually on you.

          • MrSquifler

No it isn’t. the responsibility is with you. If you are going to make a claim you should have the evidence to back it up with. You don’t make a claim and then say “You go find the proof, I’m out”.

If you say something, back it up.

  • Holeybartender

Just what we don’t need,a backdoor for hackers to simultaneously bring down both Xbox Live and PSN at the same time…

People that keeps telling that “PS has nothing to win over Xbox by doing that” saddens me. Really.

This is the exact same game. No matter on what you decided to play. During all the console online era, player communities on 3rd party games suffered for having a splited community online. We even invented excuses: “the hardware isn’t the same, it’s technically impossible”, but cross-platform compatibility existed in Quake 3 on DreamCast and PC. 2000. 5 years before the Xbox 360.

And people decides to separate from other players. On the same game. Why? Because they choosed to pay $400 on blue, instead of green.

A Tekken player is a Tekken player. 2 players should be able to play against eachover online, on the same game. It should be natural, because this isn’t Xbox’s online or PS’ online. This is Namco’s. Tekken will connect to Namco’s servers and uses your IDs from Xbox and PS servers. But the real game is hosted by Namco.

You can replace “Tekken” and “Namco” with every new 3rd party online games on XBO and PS4. For example, Ubisoft should be able to do it on For Honor. And you can’t attack me on what console I’m fan of. I’m not a console fan, I’m a video game fan. Consoles are a support for playing games. It’s like saying in 90’s that I’m a fan of my VCR.

    • MrSquifler

      Very well said.
