The Last of Us Movie Won’t Include Everything From The Game

We already know a The Last of Us movie is already in production, although it may have to cut out a lot of content from the game as everything cannot fit into a 2 hour movie.

The Last of Us writer Neil Druckmann was interviewed by MCV. Neil Druckmann is also penning the script for the movie as well, but will have to change some things. He said “you can’t tell the same kind of story that you can in a game like The Last of Us”. The game is around 13 or so hours long and that type of narrative is obviously not possible for a movie that is 2 hours long.

He also added “it’s been super difficult” trying to cut content from the game into the movie. Not only are the gameplay elements cut, but not even all the cutscenes and dialogue can fit. He’s still in the middle of writing The Last of Us movie, but the process from game to film has not been very easy on him. On the plus side, at least he’s responsible for writing the movie and not some Hollywood writer that would change everything completely.

Druckmann concluded The Last of Us movie will still be focused on Joel and Ellie. No release date has been set for the film, but hopefully it turns put to be good. The last thing the world needs is another shoddy video game movie adaptation.
