Bandai Namco has announced that Maxi, the “Dandy of the Seas,” will be returning in SoulCalibur 6.

Maxi, a pirate from the RyÅ«kyÅ« Kingdom (present-day Okinawa), has been a mainstay in the series since his introduction in SoulCalibur. Initially he worked as freelance pirate with a full crew, but a chance encounter with Astaroth resulted in him joining forces with Kilik and eventually Xianghua. Though they split up following the events of the original, they reunite in SoulCalibur 3, but due to certain circumstances are soon forced to part ways once more. However, it appears their fates were inextricably linked, as he wound up becoming the mentor of their children, Xiba and Lexia, as well as Taki’s student, Natsu, in SoulCalibur 5.

Per usual, Maxi employs the nunchaku-based fighting style he learned from Li Long (Soul Edge, SC 3). Of course, he too has a super attack and his sees him unleash a flurry of blows with his weapon before tossing it into the air and rocking the opponent with one final super-charged punch.

With this announcement the amount of characters in SoulCalibur 6 now stands at 13: Sophitia, Mitsurugi, Kilik, Xianghua, Nightmare, Groh, Ivy, Zasalamel, Geralt, Siegfried, Taki, Yoshimitsu and Maxi.

SoulCalibur 6 is due out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2018.
