The Metal Gear Survive beta on the PS4 is now available in the U.S. Download it here.
The open beta test for Metal Gear Survive on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is now available for everyone all around the world to download…unless you live in the Americas. Yes, that’s right, if you live in the Americas and own a PS4, then you’re going to have a wait a bit longer to get into the beta and not even Konami is sure about how long that wait will be.
Here’s the statement from the official Metal Gear Survive twitter account:
“Quick update everyone. Metal Gear Survive’s beta is unfortunately not yet available for PS4 in the Americas. The beta is available in all other regions for PS4 and available globally on Xbox One.”
This is no doubt an unfortunate turn of events for the potential beta testers and Konami, alike. For the former, this is a chance to check out the game before it comes out in full next month, while the beta provides Konami with a chance to prove that the game shouldn’t be slept on.
And, indeed, Metal Gear Survive has much to prove so it won’t be remembered as a mere bad dream.
Since it was officially revealed back in 2016, there hasn’t been a single thing good to say about Metal Gear Survive. It was already off to a bad start since we knew Hideo Kojima wouldn’t be the one behind this and were fully aware of what happens to Konami franchises when their creators aren’t around. Unfortunately, our fears turned out to be justified, as not only did the game eliminate the stealth and espionage gameplay that the franchise is famous for, but it recently came to light that it will feature both always-online DRM and microtransactions.
With such a steep hill to climb, one would think that Konami would make sure the beta would go off without a hitch. However, as we now know, this isn’t what happened, and a sizable portion of the game’s potential audience still can’t even play it.
At the very least, some are saying that the game is pretty fun — even if an equal amount are praying for it to bomb.
