Microsoft announced today that they would be recommitting to independent development on the Xbox One. Phil Harrison announced the details early today about a program called Independent Developers @ Xbox. Microsoft says that the new program will allow developers of all shapes and sizes to build, publish and sell their games digitally on Xbox One.

Effectively, the new initiative from Microsoft will allow developers to self-publish on the Xbox One. It gives access to development kits for developers at no charge, and gives developers a clear path to launching and selling their games on the platform.

All games that come through this Indie Development program on the Xbox One will have access to all features and functionality on the console. That means achievements, gamerscore, kinect, smart glass, cloud services, and others.
