Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation Inspired By Uncharted 3

A crazy stunt in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation was inspired by Nathan Drake’s crazy antics in Uncharted 3.

If you have seen the trailer (and posters) for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, you will know there’s a scene where Tom Cruise is hanging by his fingertips on a plane.

The film’s director, Christopher McQuarrie, did a Q&A session recently on his official Twitter account. A fan asked him about the plane stunt that Tom Cruise does as pictured above.

McQuarrie said the stunt’s idea was a group effort. It was him, Cruise and possibly some other people working on the movie. He even said that “Uncharted” was used as an inspiration for the crazy stunt as well.

If people remember correctly, there’s a scene in Uncharted 3 where Nathan Drake is dangling on a plane too just grabbing onto some cargo. It was an exciting scene in a video game, yet will look even more insane in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

Although McQuarrie didn’t mention it, both Rogue Nation and Uncharted 3 could have been inspired by James Bond too. The end to “The Living Daylights” has a scene where James Bond is hanging dangerously out of a plane as well.
