The Assassin’s Creed movie is hoping to buck the trend of terrible video game based movies when it releases this December, which could potentially pave the way for even more game related movies. One that has been talked about for a number of years now is a reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie franchise, and now it looks like it has found a director.

According to a report from Variety, Simon McQuoid is currently in talks to be the director for the Mortal Kombat reboot film that is in the works.

McQuoid is far from a household name, as he has been known for directing commercials, which may seem like a strange choice. However, he has won plenty of awards for that work, so he definitely has an eye for directing of some sort.

This movie would be a total fresh start for the Mortal Kombat film series, which previously included the rather enjoyable Mortal Kombat and the critically panned Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

It was previously revealed that James Wan was going to be producing the movie, along with a number of other names attached to the project on the crew side. Getting a director is the next logical step, so hopefully they can move forward with this movie and it doesn’t get stuck in development hell.
