Naughty Dog has been hard at work finishing up Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which comes out this August. The game is notable for being the first in the Uncharted series to not feature the franchise’s main protagonist, Nathan Drake, but rather stars Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, two of the franchise’s backing characters. Though Naughty Dog has stated on multiple occasions that last year’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the last game in Nathan’s story, the future of the franchise after The Lost Legacy has been unclear.
Shaun Escayg, The Lost Legacy‘s creative director and writer, recently had an interview with EuroGamer in which he revealed what Naughty Dog has planned for Uncharted in the future. When asked if the Uncharted series will end after The Lost Legacy is released, Escayg responded, “I doubt that highly.” He once again confirmed that Nathan’s story is over, but opened the door to the possibility of more games like The Lost Legacy that will feature other characters from the franchise that aren’t Nathan. He explained how Sully was one such character that Naughty Dog was considering when trying to figure out who The Lost Legacy would be centered around before ultimately picking Chloe. Maybe we’ll get a Sully-centered Uncharted game in the future?
Escayg also said that Naughty Dog is open to experimenting with an open world game, whether it be Uncharted or another franchise, but that nothing is set in stone. He also assured fans that The Lost Legacy is its own full game and not just a slightly longer DLC. In regards to Naughty Dog’s future in general, Escayg said that everyone is working on The Lost Legacy right now and once that’s finished they’ll prioritize their next project, The Last of Us: Part II.
