According to some development sources, a new Splinter Cell game is in production. Looks like Ubisoft is reviving the Splinter Cell franchise. It’s been almost a decade since the last Splinter Cell game, and fans have been asking for a new title.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist was released back in 2013. The stealth third-person shooter brought back Sam Fisher as its protagonist and introduced new and old characters to the franchise. Splinter Cell: Blacklist featured an interesting storyline, co-op missions, a multiplayer component, and lots of customizations options. The game was well-received by the majority of the community, scoring many 8/10s on some gaming websites. A minority of the fanbase felt like it was losing its roots, and it was turning into a fast-paced stealth game that rewarded quick and cinematic kills over patience and planning. Since then, fans of the title believed that maybe Splinter Cell: Blacklist was the last game of its franchise.

A report from VGC released some information regarding the future of the series. According to some development sources, a new Splinter Cell game was put into production. This could be an attempt to win its fans back after the failed efforts to bring back the franchise on Mobile and VR devices. Some people with information regarding the title and its future believe that a studio outside of Montreal’s branch is going to lead the development of the game.

These are good news for fans of the stealth genre and the Splinter Cell franchise. The recent Ghost Recon games disappointed many fans, so this might be what Ubisoft needs to get back on track. Besides that, it would be a great time to get some good news from Ubisoft. Right now, they are having some bad press regarding the recent harassment allegations.

According to Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot in an interview back in 2019. The recent success of other Ubisoft franchises like Assassin’s Creed, and new ones such as Watch Dogs and The Division, were a big reason for the absence of the Splinter Cell franchise.

Games like Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed have earned an immense fanbase and financial success, and most developers want to keep working in these games. Bringing back a franchise as Splinter Cell is going to be a challenge in this current market, a lot of stealth games have been released in recent years, and standing out could be a hard thing to accomplish.
