Nintendo Of America Is Now Selling Previously European Ambassador Exclusive New 3DS Cover Plates

The New Nintendo 3DS XL launched officially in the US almost a year ago, though lucky Club Nintendo Platinum members got a chance to get a special edition of the regular New Nintendo 3DS more than a month early in Europe only. This version came with special exclusive Ambassador Edition cover plates, which Nintendo of America has now started to sell.

Until last Fall, the US exclusively had the New Nintendo 3DS XL, which could not change cover plates at all. It wasn’t until the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer themed New Nintendo 3DS that we got one. However, Nintendo of America did not sell any cover plates that could go on there at all.

Instead, anyone who wanted to change the design of their New Nintendo 3DS had to import plates from other regions, such as Japan or Europe. Later this month is set to bring us another New Nintendo 3DS with interchangeable cover plates, this one themed around Pokemon Red & Blue.

Now, Nintendo of America has apparently decided to start selling cover plates for the system with more coming out, at least starting with one through their online store. Starting yesterday, they were selling the Kanji cover plates that were previously exclusive to the Ambassador bundle through this method.

The bad news is that very quickly, the cover plates have sold out on their website, but they do say to keep checking back, so it sounds like they will be getting more. Hopefully this means the US will start to get an influx of new plates that we can purchase outside of their webstore to customize our systems.
