Resistance was a series that, while maintaining a relative solid foothold, could never become the AAA blockbuster that Sony envisioned it to be. Known for its varied weapon sandbox, it posted solid Metacritic scores, ranging from 83-87, but couldn’t quite match the critical and commercial success of theHalo series. As such, Sony has announced that the online servers for Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2 and Resistance 3 will be shut down effectively today.
@hatcheatluv84 there are a large variety of reasons why they have to shut down. Sony makes that call though, not us. They maintain online

When asked if Resistance: Burning Skies would have its online servers shut down, Insomniac replied they didn’t know. According to GameSpot, however, it appears from the Sony online support page that Resistance: Burning Skies will still have its online servers operational.
Insomniac at first was considering a Resistance 4, but decided against it for fear of franchise fatigue and wanting to do something different. As such, Insomniac has moved on, saying, “Resistance has reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story that we wanted to tell.” Insomniac developed the co-operative FPS titled Fuse that was released in May 2013 and the PlayStation exclusive Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus in November 2013. Insomniac currently is developing the Xbox One exclusive, Sunset Overdrive, with a release date of 2014.
