PlayStation All-Stars is “a rip-off”, says Bayonetta creator

Hideki Kamiya has recently taken to Twitter to voice his opinion on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. Kamiya, the creator of popular game series Bayonetta, Okami, and Project P-100 for the Wii U, thinks that Sony’s brawler is little more than rip-off of Nintendo’s popular Smash Bros. franchise.

Kamiya is definitely echoing the sentiments that have already been voiced by many gamers since PS All Stars was revealed earlier this year.  But the entire industry is fueled by this type of in-genre competition.  Shooters are fundamentally structured in the same ways, but the nuances and features differ in each.  The same can be said about the similarities between PlayStation All-Stars and Super Smash Bros, the problems is Super Smash Bros has been a lone title in a genre that it basically created.

The real ironic thing about it is that Kamiya is directly related to at least two of the game’s mascots being used.  Kamiya is the creator of the Devil May Cry series, and the original Dante is his creation.  Working with Platinum Games, Kamiya is also directly related to Raiden who is the main character of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
