The Pokemon Company Is Interested In More Remakes of Pokemon Games

Pokemon is just about to enter its seventh generation of games with the upcoming Sun and Moon, but some of the generations also featured remakes of past games as well. While it may seem like the games that needed a remake already got one, The Pokemon Company may have other ideas.

Red, Blue, and Yellow were released earlier this year on the 3DS Virtual Console, which sold exceptionally well. You would have thought this might mean The Pokemon Company and Nintendo might just release the next generations digitally like this. However, in an interview with IGN, series producer Junichi Matsuda revealed that they are still looking at potentially going with full scale remakes of past games in the future.

“I think the remakes, like Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, is still an approach we’re interested in. With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically there had never been a way to bring those Pokemon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn’t get those Pokemon out.”

What made these VC releases really neat is the integration with Pokemon Bank that is set to allow you to bring your favorites from those games into Sun and Moon at some point after release. While those games allow you to do that, there are others where it it much harder, specifically with the fourth generation of games, where you have to manually trade them to a Gen 5 game and then put them in the Pokemon Bank.

Considering what Matsuda said, it almost makes you wonder if they are looking at a remake of Diamond and Pearl since that would be the next up after 2014’s Ruby and Sapphire remake. It would also be quite interesting to see a full remake of Red and Blue at this point as well, especially with the upcoming Nintendo Switch potentially bringing a major Pokemon game to a home console due to its portable side. That would certainly be a huge win for Nintendo to announce in their January 12th Nintendo Switch full reveal event to sell people on the system.

What would you rather see be remade in the future, Red and Blue again or Diamond and Pearl? Make sure to let us know in the comments below.
